Speech and language software has many valuable uses in the rehabilitation of indiiduals with language impairments resulting from stroke or head injury. Aphasia is a language disorders in which clients experience difficulty retrieving vocabulary. These clients often receive speech therapy, but also need home practice to stimulate the language sections of the brain. The ItemWriter Series is excellent for clients with aphasia and related disorders. Five modules are included in the program that may be purchased individually or as a group.
- ItemWriter Analogies - Clients complete sentences by picking the appropriate word from a group. Cause-effect, class-subject, object-action and other analogy sets are included. The program features 200 items and two levels of difficulty.
- Item Writer Synonyms and Antonyms - For each stimulus word, students select words that have the same meaning or the opposite meaning. This program is great for clients who have difficulty retrieving words.
- Item Writer Drawing Conclusions - This program includes challenging exercises in inferential reasoning. Students select the conclusion that can be derived logically from a statement. Items range from simple to difficult, with most of moderate difficulty. The activities strengthen the ability to analyze the content of statements.
- ItemWriter Completing Familiar Phrases - This program is excellent for eliciting verbal responses. In Level 1, clients are asked to finish incomplete phrases. The correct ending to each phrase is highly predictable. Level 2 on the CD includes the same phrases but the correct beginning of the phrase is omitted. This task is especially useful for children or adults with word-retrieval problems.
- ItemWriter Answering YES/NO Questions -Students respond "yes" or "no" to factual (Level 1) or opinion (Level 2) questions. The speech featuer allows the user to answer spoken questions without additional cues if visual cues are not desired.
All five programs allow you to add you own items to the program. This is why ItemWriter is the series of choice for individuals with language impairments resulting from brain damage.
